OUGD405 - How To : Development

For this brief we had to choose one persons research and elaborate on it with regards to the How To.. brief. We chose Ewan's research on fitness routines. we constructed a survey which we sent out to a set of students for their feedback.

The findings from our survey showed us that a lot of student exercise and some do not. We were very interested by the money people spend each month. We want to create a free way for students to exercise which can be incorporated into their day-to-day life.

Design related:

We asked this question because we are interested in designing an app to go with our posters.

As a group we brainstormed lots of ideas to help us come up with a product which would work best for our brief. We chose to aim our campaign at students as we have the knowledge of their day-to-day goings on and also access to a large group of them to check the effectiveness of our idea.

During our brainstorm we decided we were going to produce an A1 poster which is going to fold up and be sent out to students or be available at student unions, halls etc. We have decided to use the height measurement but change the width as not many students would put an A1 poster up in their rooms.

The main aim of our campaign is to try and get students to incorporate exercise into their daily routine. The name of our brand is NUYU which we think is a quirky and contemporary way to display 'new you'. The name 'New you' was thought to be quite cheesy and cliche but with the shortening and change in the language I think it works very well.

We have chosen 5 different exercises which we are going to display on our poster:

  • Squats
  • Sit-ups
  • Step-ups
  • Invisible Chair
  • Push ups
On our poster we are going to give instructions about how to carry out each exercise and also information about what you will achieve from doing so.

Squats

Sit Ups

Do sit ups actually work?

Depends what you are doing them for. Students will most likely be doing sit ups to keep fit rather than loose weight off their tummies.

Step -Ups

Invisible Chair

Push Ups

We plan to use simple illustrations to go with the explanation of how to do each exercise. We hope this will encourage students to try something new and exercise more.
