OUGD505: Design Practice 2 - Studio Brief 2 (Areas of Design)

Part of the brief states that my research must cover 2 areas of design. I think that it is hard to just pick 2 areas as design tends to fit into all of the options.

The brief:

Responding to the feedback you received, you should develop and produce a range of responses relating to a minimum of two of the following areas of design:
Publishing & Editorial
Information & Way-finding
Branding & Identity
Product & Packaging
Retail & Promotion
Your work should practically and conceptually explore the possible products, ranges and methods of distribution that you have investigated and analysed in your primary and secondary research. Your work should also reflect your own creative ambitions within graphic design as well as being focused towards your chosen audience.

Given that I have to choose which option best suits my design I have chosen to focus on Editorial and Publishing and Branding and Identity.
I have chosen these for the following reasons:

E&P
  • Brochure design
  • Publication
  • Web design (layout)
B&I
  • Logo
  • Brand guidelines
  • Website
  • Posters
  • Tickets
  • Billboards
  • Stationary
Though I have chosen these two areas I do think that my work could fit into a few other areas such as Information and Wayfinding and Retail and Promotion.

OUGD505: Design Practice 2 - Product, Range, Distribution (Ellen Degeneres)

____

Ellen DeGeneres was the 2014 host of the Oscars ceremony. She has hosted twice including this time.

From the star-studded selfie that took down Twitter to a recount of Jennifer Lawrence's fall at last year's ceremony, Ellen made her mark on Oscar night.
Ellen took time during hosting duties to wrangle a selfie with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood, including Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Kevin Spacey, Channing Tatum, Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong'o and Lupita's date, her brother Peter Nyong'o.
Ellen also became the most popular woman in Hollywood when she brought the crowd two boxes of hot pizza.

OUGD505: Design Practice 2 - Product, Range, Distribution (Oscars Instagram)

____

The Academy Instagram:

I follow the Academy on Instagram and look at their profile daily. I plan to use some of the images that they post as inspiration for my final designs. An example of this would be the program and the envelopes that are used by the Academy. I think that whatever I produce must fit in with the rest of the branding that is used by the Oscars, I am lucky that I have an idea of what I need to base my designs around and I will continue to use their instgram to inspire me.
